To the parents/caregivers and families of Plainfield High School students,
As teaching and learning evolves, the importance of students having access to reliable technology to support their learning is paramount. Beginning this year, Plainfield High School will become a 1:1 school, which means that every student at PHS will be assigned a Chromebook for their use. Each student will receive a Chromebook and a charger that they can use for schoolwork in school and at home. They will turn the device and charger in at the end of the year. Students will be responsible for the proper maintenance and safe keeping of their device, and will be responsible for any accidental or purposeful damage that occurs. We will be handing out chromebooks during the first weeks of school. In order to receive a Chromebook, each student must turn in a completed Acceptable Use Form and a Chromebook Insurance Form completed and signed by the parent/guardian.
We understand that accidents can occur, so in order to support families with any potential costs that arise related to repairs needed, the district will be offering insurance for their chromebook/charger at a cost of $20 per year. This insurance would cover 100% of the cost for two instances of any accidental damages to these items. Damage that is deemed purposeful or malicious by building administration will be subject to school discipline and the cost of repairs will be the responsibility of the family outside of insurance coverage. In the rare instances where a student exhausts their two instances of accidental damage, they will be offered the opportunity to pay an additional $20 for additional coverage.
When completing the Chromebook Insurance Form, you must indicate whether you are paying for the insurance or declining to get it. Students will have full access to his/her Chromebook, regardless of whether or not the family signs up for the insurance.
We are excited to offer this important support to your child’s education. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to our main office at (860) 564-6422 and we are happy to help.
Sincerely,
Matthew Peel
Principal, Plainfield High School
